This award was established in recognition of the contributions Dr. Christie made to the Saint John Community as Executive Director of Family Services, Founding Director of the Human Development Council and first President of the Volunteer Bureau (now Saint John Volunteer Centre Inc.).
The Funds for the Dr. Florence M. Christie Memorial Bursary are in the amount of $1,500 are provided by the Greater Saint John Community Foundation.
This year’s recipient is Morgan Nesbitt. Morgan graduated from Simonds High School in 2015 and is currently enrolled at the University of Western Ontario, working towards a bachelor in Medical Science. With the goal of being accepted to medical school to specialize in Pathology
Even though Morgan had multiple letters of recommendation, what stood out the most was her volunteer involvement. Morgan has been greatly involved in her community. She has dedicated her time helping with many local charities and committees. From bagging groceries to help raise money for Teens against drinking and driving, collecting Christmas presents to donate to Hestia House to founding the Helping Hands Charity group. She has also done Mission services in London all the while finding time to teach Sunday school at St. Joachim’s Church.
Unfortunately, Morgan could not attend our AGM to accept the Bursary in person as she her school year isn’t over yet, but has sent a video expressing her appreciation and gratitude.
