Sophia Recovery Centre is a non-residential facility that offers on-going treatment and peer support for women in recovery from addiction. It is the only women-centered on-going addiction treatment and support program in Atlantic Canada. Sophia Recovery Centre is community-based, funded and supported by local businesses, churches, foundations, agencies, governments, and private donations. Sophia Recovery Centre is governed by an independent volunteer Board of Directors who represent the fields of health, legal, business, financial, community services and clients. It is staffed by an executive director, administrative assistant, and two counsellors, and is sustained by generous in-kind support of a large network of volunteers. The program offers thirteen treatment and service options, including one-on-one addiction counselling, peer mentoring, group support, and educational programs. Women receive support both in-house, and by telephone when unable to come to the Centre due to family responsibilities or transportation issues.
“In house” volunteers are women in recovery themselves for a minimum of two years.
